Compatible with their PF-65 and PF-65 ED II series, PF-80 series, and PF-100 series spotting scopes plus just about any telescope that accepts 1.25" eyepieces, the Pentax SMC XW 20mm Eyepiece produces a low magnification that provides a wide field of view, whether you use it for astronomical or terrestrial subjects.

Using low-dispersion lanthanum glass with a six elements in four groups lens configuration and antireflection multicoatings, views through the eyepiece are crisp and bright with high resolution and minimal distortion. The spacious 70° field of view and exceptional 20mm eye relief ensure maximum comfort for long-duration use.

Unsurpassed quality and performance!!

I bought the Pentax PF-80 eda spotting scope recently along with the Pentax 20x - 60x zoom eyepiece.

The spotting scope is just exceptional delivering crystal clear, true colors and contrast rich views. The zoom eyepiece is also excellent between 20x to 35x approximately. However zooming in any further resulted in about 20% loss of sharpness and contrast. Above 40x is generally usable in very good weather conditions only. So in less than ideal weather we tend to use 20-40x zoom 95% of the time. At 60x it is okay. Nothing to write home about. This sent me on a quest to find a better eyepiece and that is when I stumbled upon Pentax SMC XW 20mm. Read few reviews and instantly knew this is the one I needed. Ordered one. Got it in 2 days Thanks to the excellent service from Pentax people (Pankaj and Murali) and tested it out on my scope. The first look through it on my 80mm Scope blew me away. The brilliant 70* FOV combined with razor sharp details, amazing contrast, real life colors and perfect eye relief made it a winner instantly! I just couldn't take my eyes off the subject.

It gives 27x magnification on the 80mm spotting scope and it is just perfect for any terrestrial observation. Instead of using 20x - 40x on the zoom eyepiece I now use bright and beautiful 27x fixed zoom of the XW20 and I can't ask for more. This is the best eyepiece for bird and wildlife watching. Period. No zoom can ever compete with this. The build and optical quality is unsurpassed.

I would suggest every nature enthusiast to buy Pentax PF 80 EDA + Pentax SMC XW 20MM eyepiece to truly enjoy nature's beauty in all it's glory.
